The National Anthem of the Philippines - Lupang Hinirang

This is the Philippine National Anthem, "Lupang Hinirang" (Chosen Land).

The Anthem's lyrics were from a poem titled "Filipinas" written in Spanish by Jose Palma.

But the music was composed by Julian Felipe. He was instructed by President Emilio Aguinaldo to make a tune for the anthem of the new Republic.

Aguinaldo liked the tune, so did the many people who celebrated their independence near the balcony of Aguinaldo's house. It was the "Philippine National March."

During the American Occupation, the anthem was sung in English.

But years later after independence, during President Ramon Magsaysay's administration, he instructed a commission to translate it into Filipino. It was successful. The Filipino People can now sing it in their own language.

Some changes took during President Marcos' Administration, but the anthem was still as great as in 1898.

Here are the lyrics of the National Anthem of the Philippines:

"Lupang Hinirang"

Bayang magiliw
Perlas ng Silanganan,
Alab ng puso
Sa dibdib mo'y buhay.

Lupang hinirang,
Duyan ka ng magiting,
Sa manlulupig,
'Di ka pasisiil.

Sa dagat at bundok,
Sa simoy at sa langit mong bughaw,
May dilag ang tula at awit
Sa paglayang minamahal.

Ang kislap ng watawat mo'y
Tagumpay na nagniningning,
Ang bituin at araw niya
Kailan pa ma'y 'di magdidilim.

Lupa ng araw, ng luwalhati't pagsinta,
Buhay ay langit sa piling mo;
Aming ligaya, na 'pag may mang-aapi
Ang mamatay nang dahil sa 'yo.

MABUHAY ANG PILIPINAS!
MABUHAY ANG LUPANG HINIRANG!

SALAMAT PO SA INYONG LAHAT!
